Expertise for Animals erarbeitete die Stellungnahme im Auftrag des Verein gegen Tierfabriken (VGT) in Österreich. Der VGT setzt sich dafür ein, Mitgefühl und Respekt gegenüber nichtmenschlichen Tieren in der Gesellschaft zu verankern.

Die vorliegende Stellungnahme untersucht die Konsequenzen der Haltungsbedingungen für Schweine. Im Fokus stehen dabei die geänderten Anforderungen der 1. Tierhaltungsverordnung in Österreich. Diese beinhalten vor allem Änderungen der Bodengestaltung und des Platzbedarfs. Zentral ist die Frage, ob die Haltungsvorgaben dem Tierschutzgesetz entsprechen.
Die Analyse zeigt, dass die Haltungsbedingungen zahlreiche gesundheitliche Probleme bei Schweinen verursachen:
● Gliedmaßenveränderungen
● Hautverletzungen
● Bursen
● Schwanz- und Ohrenbeißen
● Erkrankungen der Atemwege
● Erkrankungen des Verdauungstraktes
● Mortalität
Neben den gesundheitlichen Aspekten beleuchtet die Stellungnahme auch das Verhalten der Schweine, das unter den aktuellen Bedingungen stark eingeschränkt ist:
● Fortbewegung
● Erkundungsverhalten
● Ruheverhalten
● Komfortverhalten
Die gesundheitlichen Beeinträchtigungen und das eingeschränkte Verhalten zeigen klar auf, dass die gesetzlichen Vorgaben den Schutz der Tiere nicht gewährleisten.
Die Haltungsvorgaben verstoßen eindeutig gegen die im Tierschutzgesetz festgelegten Anforderungen, da sie weder den physiologischen noch den ethologischen Bedürfnissen der Tiere gerecht werden. Im Gegenteil: Sie verursachen Schmerzen, Leiden und Schäden und überfordern die Anpassungsfähigkeit der Schweine. Die Forschungsergebnisse belegen die erheblichen Beeinträchtigungen für die Schweine.
